10/27/17 - This week in math, learned how to multiply and divide by 2 digit numbers.  Next week, we will begin our unit on place value.

 

The test students took last week were returned today.  The test was in 2 parts:  Unit 1 (12 questions) and Unit 2 (12 questions).  Those students who decided not to do test corrections gave them back to me and they will go home the Monday folder.  Those students who are doing test corrections to improve their grade must turn in the test along with completed corrections no later than Thursday, November 2.

In social studies, we will continue our lively discussions on the settlement of the early colonies.

10/20/17 - We've reached the end of the first 9-weeks!  I appreciate your help in encouraging your children to turn in missing and make-up work.  Reports cards will likely go him in the Monday folder on October 30.

Thanks to Sonali and her parents for providing us with a fun Diwali activity today.  Sonali brought in clay diya for all of us to paint and explained their significance in the Diwali celebration. 

​

Red Ribbon Week is next week.  The weekly theme is Minions.  Here is a list of the daily themes:

  • MONDAY - dress in yellow

  • TUESDAY - wear stripes

  • WEDNESDAY - wear a team shirt

  • THURSDAY - wear crazy/colorful socks

  • FRIDAY - wear red

Monday wear yellow/minion, Tuesday wear stripes, Wednesday wear any team shirt, Thursday wear crazy/colorful socks, and on Friday wear red to show one lion PRIDE can make healthy and safe choices together.  Ribbons are intended to be distributed/worn Friday, but eh it's ok if you forget and do earlier in the week.

 

This week in math, we wrapped up our adding and subtracting fractions unit with a test over everything we've learned so far in 5th grade.  Next up in math, we will be learning how to multiply and divide by double digits using the standard algorithm.

Next Friday, October 20,  is the last day of the first 9-weeks.  This school year is flying by!  Any and all missing or make-up work for my math students must be turned in to me NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19.  Please check Home Access to see if you child is missing any work.  Copies of assignments can be downloaded and printed from my website.

NOTE:  Per campus administration, students can no longer be required to attend study hall during recess to make up missing work.  Study hall during recess is now an option for your child.  If your child has missing work, I encourage you to encourage them to attend study hall to make up work.

​

Picture Day is Thursday, October 19.  Order forms will go home with your child in the Monday Folder.  Please return the forms with payment before Thursday.

​

In math this week, we continued practicing adding and subtracting fractions, including calculating perimeter using fractions.  Next week, we will review bar graphs and learn about dot (line) plots.  The next math test will be on Thursday, October 19.  This is a cumulative test that will cover all concepts we have covered so far this year.
