1/22/19 -  If you have not signed and returned a copy of your child's report card, please do so as soon as possible.

In today's Monday folder, you will find an invitation to the America play performance by the 5th grade.  Students will be performing at 2pm and 6:45pm on February 1.  The performances count as a social studies test grade.  I hope that all students will attend the evening performance, but I understand that you may have previous commitments.  Please send me an email if your child will not be attending the evening performance.

This week in social studies, we will continue rehearsing the America play and our study of the American Revolution.

In math, we are reviewing for the next test.   Our next math test will be on Wednesday and continue Thursday for those students who do not finish on Wednesday.  The test will cover the following concepts:

  • multiplying and dividing up to 3 digits by 2 digit numbers

  • multiplying and dividing fractions and whole numbers

  • volume of rectangular prisms

  • area of rectangles

  • order of operations

Later this week and next week, we will cover stem-and-leaf plots and review decimals (rounding, adding, subtracting).

01/17/19 -   I hope you enjoyed the unexpectedly long weekend!  Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather as we do usually have outdoor recess if it is not raining.

In Social Studies this week, we will continue our study of the American Revolution.

In my math classes, we will wrap up our study of volume of rectangular prisms.

There are a few important items that I wanted to share....

REPORT CARDS - Report cards for the 2nd 9-weeks grading period will go home in the Monday folder TODAY.  There are 2 copies.  Please sign the highlighted copy and return to me in the brown envelope by the end of the week.

MUSTANG EXPRESS - Tomorrow is our trip to Canyon Vista Middle School.  This is always a fun and exciting trip as it gives our 5th graders a glimpse into the day of a middle-schooler.  A highlight of the experience is usually lunch as our 5th graders can buy lunch in the CVMS cafeteria using their lunch funds.  If your child prefers to bring their lunch, they will be responsible for carrying it around campus with them throughout the morning, preferably in a drawstring bag.

YEARBOOK PRIDELINES - In the LME yearbook, there is a section in which relatives and friends of 5th graders can place Prideline messages.  The messages are an opportunity to tell your 5th graders how proud you are of them and their accomplishments.  The cost for each Prideline is $6 and the deadline is February 21.  A flyer with instructions will be in the Monday folder today and you can also find it HERE.

5th GRADE AMERICA PLAY - Mark your calendars for the evening of February 1 as the 5th grade will present the America Play, written my Mr. Lane Holmstrom.  More details to come...
