03/09/18 - This week in math, we learned how to identify and graph additive (y = a + x) and multiplicative (y = ax) patterns.  When we return from spring break, we will begin our study of measurement conversions.

All of my math students were given a STAAR Math Review packet.  Completion of this packet is completely optional but highly encouraged.  Those who complete it by April 2 will earn some sort of reward.  Completion means all problems have been solved with work shown as much as possible.  I am not going to grade the packet, as it is too large.  Instead,  the answers are posted on the assignments page on my website, and students can check their own answers as they work.  I am not posting the packet due to copyright.  We will not be spending much time in class reviewing or preparing specifically for the STAAR test, so my intention with this packet is to provide quality practice problems for students to complete independently.

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable spring break!

03/02/18 - We had a great field trip to Inner Space Caverns this week.  It was a rainy day outside but a humid 72 degrees down in the caves.

We have two more field trips this year.  In April, the 5th grade classes will be visiting the LBJ Library at the University of Texas.  In May, my homeroom class only will visit the IBM Design Studio.  This field trip is an extra opportunity for my homeroom class only, and therefore, will require me to collect payment ($6-7) to pay for the bus.  More information on this extra trip will come in early-May as we get closer to the field trip date.

In social studies, we continue our study of the American Revolution and colonization of the United States as we head towards Immigration Day.  The parent info meeting for Immigration Day is Tuesday, March 6 at 2pm in Mrs. Sorrell's classroom.  Please join us if you are able to help with Immigration Day in April.  If you'd like to help but cannot make the parent meeting, let me know and I will pass along your contact info.

In my math classes, we wrapped up our unit on geometry with a geometry vocabulary quiz on Friday.  Students who did not earn a passing grade on the quiz will be required to retake it on Friday, March 9.  I strongly suggest they study using the geometry Quizlet that is posted in my Google classroom.  Many students found the Quizlet to be extremely helpful.

This week in math, students will be learning about algebraic relationships and patterns.

IMPORTANT - The end of the third 9-weeks is March 23.  Any and all missing and/or make up work for my social studies and math classes is due NO LATER THAN March 21.  This is a hard deadline to allow time for grading and uploading of grades.
